Book signing 12/23!

Hi Orlando!

I am a local author with my first book signing coming up on December 23 at the Oviedo Borders at 5 PM. If anyone is looking for a last-minute gift for a book-loving girl 12 and up or a grown woman who does not scoff at young adult literature, it would be supremely awesome if you want to show up and buy a copy of Magic Under Glass! Being a debut author is nerve-racking.

It's a romantic fantasy set in a pseudo-Victorian world, based loosely on Jane Eyre, about a girl who falls in love with a ghost trapped in the body of a clockwork man. It is a nice hardcover published by Bloomsbury and I will not only sign it, but draw a sketch of the main character (well, unless a gazillion people show up and my hand falls off, but that would be an awesome problem to have) and give you a nice bookmark.

Here are some enticing quotes:

"Magic Under Glass is a stunning blend of paranormal intrigue, doomed love, secrets in the attic, and a clockwork man with a hidden past. Jaclyn Dolamore expertly captures the essence of the perfect gothic romance on every page" --Carrie Ryan, author of The Forest of Hands and Teeth

"A whimsical, smart novel that is sort of like a cross between Howl's Moving Castle and Jonathan Strange and Mister Norrell." --Maggie Stiefvater, bestselling author of Shiver

/end awkward self-promotion

Hope to see some local booklovers!

I need a nice dress/evening gown

Dear Orlando,

My boyfriend just spent and exorbitant amount of money on a suit for himself, and I fear I have nothing to wear that will match it. I've never been one for dressing up at all, I despise makeup, and I am not a model figure - I can never find anything pretty that fits me, nor do I really care that much. So nothing in my wardrobe will do.

Suffice to say, I'd like to get a nice dress that will go with his suit. So, most likely it will be expensive and pretty. Where can I start? Department stores won't have anything for me because I'm not a 5/7/9 (or a double-zero). I'm basically looking for a prom dress here, basically, just a little more elegant.

Notification System

**FINAL EDIT Thu Dec 10 02:15:47 UTC 2009**

So there is the final update... Over the past day we have processed around 11 million jobs out of the 12 million that were in queue at that time. Please bear in mind that over this past day, more jobs for notifications are also created. So while the queue has been dropping, we are still not fully caught up at this point, due to backlog and new jobs. We have roughly 3 million jobs still pending that involve the notification system in some manner. We had hoped we could have fully cleared the queue in a day, but unfortunately we can't clear it too quickly, since we need the rest of the site to operate normally. From our current perspective on the amount of jobs that are left in queue, and how many it has processed thus far, we believe it will take around another 8 - 12 hours to process everything.

And finally some answers to some questions:

I'm an artist who needs some prints made for a show. Does anyone know of a place that does reasonably-priced prints of digital artwork (i.e. Photoshop files)?
